Statement from County Executive Marc Elrich About Competing Rallies Regarding Immigration in Rockville on Sept. 13

We live in a nation built on the principle of free speech, and we saw approximately 600 people embody that principle in a very strong and open manner. We experienced democracy in action and I was proud that Montgomery County showed the world we are a special community. The region and the world now know that here people disagree peacefully while sharing differing points of view.
I especially want to thank all the public safety officials from Montgomery County and the City of Rockville. Your expertise and professionalism made this event a success and with very little disruption to the normal operations of the building and streets around it.
We showed the world why Montgomery County is a special place. We are growing, changing and creating a more equitable and inclusive county for everyone.
