Statement from County Executive Marc Elrich Regarding $5 Million in Additional Funding for Emergency Assistance Relief Payment Program

For Immediate Release: Thursday 30 April

I am pleased to partner with the Council to provide $5 million in additional funding for the Emergency Relief Assistance Payment (EARP) program.  Every day this crisis continues, more and more people are feeling the impact of unemployment and the many closures throughout our community.  This is why I felt we needed to make an even greater investment in people who need assistance. Now we have an opportunity to help even more people survive during these unprecedented times.  The more we do to assist residents now, the better positioned we are for our recovery.

About the Emergency Assistance Relief Payment Program

EARP provides immediate cash assistance to vulnerable people and families that don’t qualify for federal or state benefits.  The program is designed to reduce the financial hardships being experienced by low-income residents who are struggling through the COVID-19 crisis. For more information on the EARP program go to https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/HHS/RightNav/Coronavirus_EARP.html
