Statement from County Executive Marc Elrich on the Infrastructure Bill Passage

For Immediate Release: Tuesday 10 August

This bill is extraordinarily important. It will not only help us rebound economically from the pandemic, but it will also help us build a more sustainable and equitable future for generations of Americans.

At a time when our country appears to be divided and entrenched in partisan politics, the Senate found the will to pass a bill that puts the country, and its people, before party. This bill will create jobs, more economic opportunity, and address decades of infrastructure needs that will directly impact the lives of people all over this nation. The working class and the unemployed need this bill, and it is my hope that the spirit of collaboration that resulted in this outcome continues in Congress.

The residents of Montgomery County are thankful to Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin for their advocacy, determination and votes today. There are numerous projects and initiatives that can now be funded in Montgomery County and around our region. These are the kind of funds that are meant to be used for projects like fixing the American Legion Bridge.

I look forward to working with our federal delegation to ensure that our County’s transportation and infrastructure priorities receive these much-needed investments.
