Statement from Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich on President Biden’s Decision to Not Seek a Second Term

For Immediate Release: Sunday 21 July

President Biden's decision not to run for a second term is one I respect and understand. He has been an exceptional leader, tirelessly advocating for the needs of working men and women across this country.

Under his administration, we saw a robust response to the COVID-19 pandemic nationally which had been sorely lacking. The swift rollout of vaccines and the implementation of relief measures helped protect our community's health and stabilize our local economy during an unprecedented crisis.

The Inflation Reduction Act is another significant achievement, bringing substantial benefits to our County. This landmark legislation not only aims to reduce inflation but also includes provisions for lowering prescription drug costs, extending health insurance subsidies and investing in renewable energy. These measures directly support the well-being of our residents and contribute to a more sustainable future.

President Biden's dedication to combating climate change has been evident through his policies and initiatives. His administration's efforts to rejoin the Paris Agreement, invest in clean energy and promote environmental justice align with Montgomery County's own Climate Action Plan. These actions have provided us with a stronger framework to address the climate crisis and protect our natural resources.

Additionally, his focus on creating a strong economy has yielded positive outcomes for working families. Through initiatives like the American Rescue Plan, we have seen investments in infrastructure, education and workforce development that have bolstered economic opportunities for our nation.

These are only some of his accomplishments as president.

He continues to put the best interests of the American people first and for that and so much more we are deeply appreciative.
