For Immediate Release: Wednesday 21 May
Our region lost a giant of public service with the passing of Congressman Gerry Connolly.
Before he served in Congress, Rep. Connolly helped shape the future of Northern Virginia and the entire DMV through his work on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. His leadership at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments was impactful to the entire region, including Montgomery County. He understood how interconnected our communities are and pushed for investments and partnerships that benefited everyone.
Montgomery County is grateful for Congressman Connolly's role in strengthening regional cooperation and elevating the voice of local government. His work on regional transit, environmental issues and economic development had lasting impacts that extended far beyond the boundaries of his district.
His legacy is one of persistence, clarity and an unwavering belief in the value of public service. I offer my condolences to his family, his constituents and our colleagues in Fairfax County.
